To support children of JCA members or students who have been actively involved in the JCA and who are pursuing undergraduate education in Ontario. Qualifications: Applicants must be students of African/Caribbean background who have either Canadian citizenship or permanent residency; must be relatives of JCA members or students who have volunteered or participated actively in the organization; must be enrolled as a full-time, first-year student at an Ontario university, college or other post-secondary institution; must demonstrate involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities; must demonstrate financial need. recipient must be able to participate in the JCA’s scholarships awards recognition event; graduate and professional studies (e.g., law, medical school, master’s, doctoral degrees) are not eligible. Selection criteria: Selection criteria include: demonstrated scholastic ability; applicant essay; involvement and leadership in community and/or campus activities; significant personal achievements beyond academic ability which may include personal accomplishments in spite of adversity; financial need; references; commitment to career goals and to giving back. How to apply: Applications must be completed online, required documents include proof of status in Canada, proof of enrollment in an Ontario postsecondary institution; two-page essay; most recent transcripts; income and expenses statement; and applicant photograph and summary; two references (academic, employment or volunteer-related).
